Appearance


  • One half inch in length

  • Yellow and black coloring with pale hairs covering their body and around the eyes

Behavior


  • Social insects

  • Colonies can have up to 80,000 individuals

  • Non-aggressive unless provoked

  • Sting can be painful

  • Nests are usually found outdoors in cavities or cracks

  • However, can enter homes through an attic opening or chimney and will nest inside homes, usually in wall voids

  • Nest are active year round

  • Nectar and pollen
