Rodent Prevention Tips

Appearance


  • Light brown or gray

  • Small (three to four inches long)

  • Large ears

  • Small eyes

  • Pointed nose

  • Rod-shaped droppings

Behavior


  • Excellent climbers

  • Can swim

  • Nest within structures near a food source

  • Can squeeze through a hole one-fourth inch wide

  • Feed up to 20 times per day

  • Can carry many serious diseases

  • Can contaminate food

  • Able to destroy/damage material by gnawing

  • Very inquisitive

Diet


  • Eat almost anything

  • Prefer starches but will feed on garbage, sewage and organic matter

Reproduction


  • Can have litters as often as every 50 days with up to seven young

  • Live up to one year
