Rodent Prevention Tips

Appearance


  • Brown in color

  • Six to eight inches long without tail

  • Small eyes and ears

  • Rounded nose

  • Shaggy fur

  • Droppings are capsule-shaped

Behavior


  • Nest in underground burrow - in which they can then enter the building

  • Good jumpers, swimmers and climbers

  • Most common rat in U.S.

  • Limited quickness

  • Can enter through a hole as small as a quarter

  • Possess excellent sense of taste

  • Carry many dangerous diseases

  • Nocturnal Very cautious

Diet


  • Omnivorous, prefer meats

  • Drink water daily and require it for survival

Reproduction


  • Litters may reach 12 in number

  • Females can have up to 7 litters per year

  • Adults live as long as one year
