What does a pavement ant look like?

Pavement ants are light brown to black in color.  They are around one-tenth inch long with parallel lines on their head and thorax. Their antennae are made up of 12 segments.

How did the pavement ant invade my home/work?

Although, pavement ant nests are usually outdoors under stones along curbs or in cracks in pavement, when nests are found indoors, they are usually in walls or under floors.  Typically, these pests will only invade homes or buildings looking for food, so don't give them an excuse to use your property as their favorite dining spot.

Can pavement ants harm my family or employees?

These pests are not a harm, but can be a nuisance.

How does Batzner get rid of pavement ants?

A Batzner Pest Management Service Professional will perform a treatment around the exterior of the home or building, as well as around the pavement surrounding the property. Another effective means is by using ant bait stations, where the ants will carry a piece of the bait back to the ant hill eliminating the colony.

What steps can I take to control or prevent pavement ants myself?

Good sanitation can be your strongest defense against pavement ant infestations.  Following these simple steps can help to eliminate a current infestation and help to prevent one from occurring:

  • Do not leave pet food out all day.
  • Store opened food products in sealed containers.
  • Wash dishes daily (dirty dishes and utensils can provide a food source for ants).
  • Clean up crumbs and spills promptly. Use garbage containers with tight-fitting lids.
  • Use garbage containers with tight-fitting lids, and empty garbage containers regularly.
  • Basically, keep it clean.
  • Do not use ant or bug sprays. These can cause the nests to split and actually cause more of a problem.
