Earwig
Appearance
- Dark, reddish brown in color
- Approximately 5/8 inch in length
- Easy to identify by the two pincher like appendages (forceps) protruding from their abdomen
Behavior
- Nocturnal
- Prefer moist, shady places such as under stones, logs or in mulch and cracks
- Can not withstand long periods of dryness
- Attracted to light and may be enticed into buildings due to the light
Diet
- Scavengers - feed on dead plant and animal matter. They can also eat green plants
