- Light brown or gray

Behavior
- Excellent climbers
- Can swim
- Nest within structures near a food source
- Can squeeze through a hole one-fourth inch wide
- Feed up to 20 times per day
- Can carry many serious diseases
- Can contaminate food
- Able to destroy/damage material by gnawing
- Very inquisitive
Diet
- Eat almost anything
- Prefer starches but will feed on garbage, sewage and organic matter
Reproduction
- Can have litters as often as every 50 days with up to seven young
- Live up to one year
