Appearance
- Brown in color
- Six to eight inches long without tail
- Small eyes and ears

Behavior
- Nest in underground burrow - in which they can then enter the building
- Good jumpers, swimmers and climbers
- Most common rat in U.S.
- Limited quickness
- Can enter through a hole as small as a quarter
- Possess excellent sense of taste
- Carry many dangerous diseases
- Nocturnal Very cautious
Diet
- Omnivorous, prefer meats
- Drink water daily and require it for survival
Reproduction
- Litters may reach 12 in number
- Females can have up to 7 litters per year
- Adults live as long as one year
